The Chemonomastics Framework

Reading identity and interpersonal chemistry through the elemental composition of names.

Chemonomastics is the practice of spelling names with periodic table symbols, then reading the chemical properties of those elements as a lens for identity and interpersonal chemistry.

It is not deterministic fortune-telling. It is a wayfinding instrument: a structured way to name dynamics you may already sense but could not previously cite.

How it works

  1. Translate — Spell the name using IUPAC element symbols (one-, two-, or three-letter).
  2. Inventory — List the elements and their documented properties (reactivity, bonding behavior, historical/alchemical associations).
  3. Interpret — Read the composition as a pattern: temperament signals, partnership chemistry, team dynamics.
  4. Test — Treat hits and misses as data. Edge cases matter more than confirmation.

Approximately 9.3% of common names translate cleanly. Names containing J or Q cannot.


Three instruments

1. The Valence Law

Does elemental “reactivity” correlate with temperament?

  • Highly reactive elements (Potassium, Sodium, Fluorine) → high-energy, transformative signatures
  • Noble gases (Helium, Neon, Argon) → stability, self-containment, non-reactivity

Use as a hypothesis generator, not a verdict.

2. The Bond Rule

How do two names interact chemically?

  • Ionic — opposites attract; transfer of charge/role
  • Covalent — shared interests; mutual electron sharing
  • Metallic — collective pooling of resources
  • Silicate — a stabilizing lattice that holds reactive metals safely (the Si–O–Si / Ni–K–K–Y case)

Partnerships and teams become readable as bond types.

3. The Isotope Factor

Different valid spellings of the same name can yield different elemental compositions—different “versions” or moods of the same identity signature.

Example: N–I–K–K–Y versus Ni–K–K–Y. Same letters, different chemistry.

  1. Pattern recognition beats prediction. Use Chemonomastics to name relational dynamics, not to forecast destiny.
  2. Integration over binary. The most interesting bonds are complementary systems—structure stabilizing spark, lattice holding fire—not identical elements pairing with themselves.
